GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT

The department accommodates activities related to the support of vulnerable children, youth, and women. It also facilitates the implementation of projects/programs for cross-cutting issues such as gender and HIV/AIDS.

Department projects and activities

Currently, the department is implementing the following projects/programs:-

1.     Young Single Mothers support the project in Mbeya City/Tanzania. The project supports young mothers aged 18 to 25 in the 20 selected streets of the 10 wards of Mbeya City and Mbeya DC. The overall project goal is to contribute towards improving the living standards of young single mothers in Mbeya City and Mbeya DC. This is a 3years project starting from December 2021 to November 2024.

2.     Other specific project objectives are:-

·      By the year 2024, a total of 20 targeted self-help households groups from the (20) Streets are well-organized.

·      500 targeted households in ten wards have increased their income from 2300TZS to 250,000TZS by September 2024.

·      By September 2024, a total of 500 young single mothers and their children from the 500 households have access to justice, and respect for human dignity as per government laws.

·      By September 2024, a total of 500 households in the targeted area have increased collaboration in the families and the community.

3.     The project is funded by MISEREOR of Germany. It is implemented in collaboration with the Community Development Department and related stakeholders. 

4.     Activities – group management and registration, IGA and entrepreneurship, VICOBA, human rights, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, and hygiene.
